Camp at La Posada next to Potrero Chico

La Posada is a great campsite righto outside of the entrance of Potrero Chico, one of the best sport climbing areas in the world. 

You can set up your tent or sleep in your car here. The kitchen is a huge draw, with ample stoves, fridge space, and tables for big group dinners. This is also where you'll probably find that climber partner for the problem you've been eyeing for ages... There will be loads of time spent in this great kitchen. 

The acreage is nice and open, with enough space for large groups to kind of set themselves away and keep to their own if that's what is desired. 

The bathrooms here even have hot water, but there is not any toilet paper. The reputation dirt bags have made for ourselves in stealing toilet paper makes this well deserved though. 

If you are arriving from the airport, there is a shuttle service that works through the campsite that can get you squared away. If you are driving into Hidalgo, putting this pin in your GPS will get you exactly there. You'll find a large sign outside of the gates. Make sure you let someone know ahead of time if you plan on getting there in the middle of the night. The gate gets locked around 23:00. You can get in touch with them through their Facebook account.

 If you are looking to go into the town of Hidalgo for supplies, it's a couple minute drive and you can usually hitch a ride if you hang around the parking lot long enough. There is a market on Tuesdays that is an absolute must. Best orange juice in the entire world. You can hold me to it. 

There is Wifi available and charging ports in the kitchen, if that stuff is your kind of thing. 

La Posada has a restaurant on site for the nights your hands are too tired to cook or you're just feeling fancy. There are also a few spots along the road right outside of the campsite that are great to get food. Leo's right next door is a crowd favorite for late night BBQ and the famed Mexican mezcal.

Overall, great spot to make home for a few weeks/months when you find yourself in Potrero. Loads of space to spread out gear and get things ready, find climbing partners for all of your projects, find eight million ways to cook with the avocados you find at market, and get to the crags early as can be for the best climbing around. I recommend this place with all I've got.
