A pristine and unparalleled view of Cabo Pulmo National Park and the reef system that made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Cabo Pulmo is rustic, with jaw-rattling washboard roads leading through the vast Baja Sur desert to an epic point that overlooks the oldest of the only three reef systems on the Pacific side of North America.
The town itself is little more than a collection of dive centers and a couple of restaurants and just north of town on and below the point of Cabo Pulmo itself is a wonderful white sand beach that is, when the owners decide, open to free beach camping. Call ahead to a couple of the restaurants and double check if it is open.
To get there, take Highway 1 north out of Los Cabos or south out of La Paz and turn onto the well marked Camino Cabo Este. Drive about 36 kilometers on the dirt road. As you near the village of Cabo Pulmo the road will go over a rise looking out over the beach and the village. The turn into the beach is through a large well marked gate on the left.
You can also get to Cabo Pulmo from the south but the road is in far worse condition.
There are absolutely no services at the beach so be sure to pack out everything that you pack in. There is no fuel in town so like anywhere in Baja, bring extra fuel, water, a spare tire, and a jack.
