Visiting the Underground Railroad Trail allows you to tune in to the past and find out what kind of terrain slaves traversed in the pursuit of freedom.

The Underground Railroad Experience Trail is a gravel/rocky trail that features beautiful views of wildflower fields and Sandy Spring Maryland. Note that a during the rainy months it can be very muddy and it is recommended you bring boots or shoes you don't mind getting dirty. In addition, this trail is very shaded and has a lot of little water springs along the way.

Many hikers have reported seeing animals along the trail like: birds, squirrels, deers, and turtles in and around the river.

This is an educational trail on private property, keep in mind. Dogs and horses welcome on the trail but dogs need to be on a leash at all times. Park off the side of the road, on Ednor Rd, to access the trail (see map).

Walk the Underground Railroad Experience Trail Reviews

I thought the history behind this was the coolest part. The trail is beautiful and the hiking is easy, but learning about the history is what makes this special.

Easy & beautiful hike through woods and fields, but fascinating because of its historical background. Gives several opportunities to learn about the famous Underground Railroad - even through hiding in a hollow tree. Great for families.
