Description

This is an easy well and worthwhile hike for folks who are new to the trails. The top features this absurd rock (aka "Bubble Rock" or "Balanced Rock") that appears to be hanging by a thread on the summit of South Bubble. The large boulder was carried by glaciers and deposited at the edge of a cliff. If you are visiting Acadia National Park, Maine this is a must do.

Starting at Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park, the North and South Bubble are visibly seen from the tourist area by the water. By taking the Jordan Pond Carry Trail you will start your hike with simple scenic views by the pond, no elevation until you reach South Bubble.

North and South Bubble are each 1 mile/1.6km in travel. It took my travel group about 1 hour to reach the summit of South Bubble. Instead of back tracking down the trail, we left the summit and headed towards the Bubbles Divide Trail. This seemed to be the popular entry way for many hikers, but I definitely enjoyed the brisk hike before hand along Jordan Pond. Following this trail you can make a complete loop around Jordan Pond and make it back to the Jordan Pond House for some well deserve hot tea and pop overs.
