Lava Rock

Tuftonboro, New Hampshire

Camp is set up in foot hills of the White Mountains

The campsite is in Canaan Valley in Tuftonboro, NH, located in the Ossipee Mountains. The mountains are what is left of an old extinct volcano that erupted around 100 million years ago. After three eruptions ten million years apart, the famous ring dike was formed. There are only three mountain ranges in the world that are similar. From this campsite, you can hike to vantage points that will look over Lake Winnipesaukee, and if you continue on, there is time enough in the day to reach the top of Mt. Shaw that will give you the view Mt. Washington and the White Mountains. On-site, the mountain-fed pond is great for swimming and has cleaner water than most lakes. Enjoy the mowed field for games or sun. Walk to our local artist and woodworking shops. You can take a wood carving course here in the valley. Visit local attractions like the Castle In The Clouds, Lake Winnipesaukee, and local town shops. In the evening, enjoy the fire, stargaze, and fall asleep to the sound of Canaan Brook gurgling down the valley.
