Peak State is putting mushrooms in your coffee
A new Kickstarter campaign touts whole coffee beans roasted & infused (with mushrooms) for a more calm, stomach friendly, and immune supportive cup.
I love coffee. So, when Peak State reached out about trying their new infused blend, of course I was onboard. I typically drink 2-3 cups of french press per day, and for the last week I've been drinking their new product, which is a medium roast infused with a blend of mushrooms.
Mushrooms?? These aren't the "magic" kind, but there's some evidence that certain mushrooms like caga, lions mane, and reishi can improve immune function and have very high levels of anti-oxidants. Put them in coffee, and not only are you getting a boost every day, but ideally, they even out the high/lows of caffeine and don't upset your stomach quite as much.
Earlier this year, Peak State launched an infused Cold Brew, which is now available in Colorado retail stores. I haven't tried that yet, but it's on my to-do list. Their new kickstarter is for whole beans, so you can brew it at home.
The Verdict
First off, it doesn't taste like mushrooms. I know you were going to ask that. It does have a pleasant aroma, and I'd say maybe a slightly earthy taste (at least to me). Very subtle. It brews a good cup of coffee. I've been drinking it for about a week -- it's pretty hard to speak to whether my immune system has been boosted, but I definitely felt like it had a bit of a smoother "ride" than other coffees. Overall, I enjoyed it and would definitely buy again. Plus, it's a local Colorado company, they source 100% organic ingredients, and never use single use plastic bottles.
