Hike into Lake Isabelle

Enjoy the gorgeous alpine lake views at Lake Isabelle in Indian Peaks Wilderness

By: Kalli Hawkins + Save to a List

This is a wonderful day hike, it's a relatively easy 4.5 mile round trip hike. Well maintained trail, with great views of the Indian Peaks Wilderness along the way. Once reaching the alpine lake, there are plenty of places to have lunch, take photos, and sit back and relax while enjoying the views.

Dogs are allowed on this trail, as long as they are kept on leash. I brought my 4 year old Australian shepherd, Riley along and he had a wonderful time. This is a popular trail, and the parking lot fills up pretty quickly so the earlier you arrive the better.

On my way back to the car, about a 1/2 from the trailhead I was rounding a corner when a bull moose walked out on the trail in front of me! One of the neatest experiences I've ever had while hiking. Riley and I immediately stopped, and began to slowly backup to give him some space. He stood in the middle of the trail for a few minutes until he meandered along towards the stream. Just to be careful, we waited a few more minutes and then continued on our hike back to the trailhead. It was a great unexpected end to our day hike!
