• Right in the middle of the Italian Alps• Appropriate for families• Scenic walk around the lake• Easy to reach

Lago di Dobbiaco is a family friendly and small lake in the area of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park. It can be reached by car, as there is a parking lot there or even with the bus to Cortina d’Ampezzo, which passes by every hour. It isn’t far from the village of Dobbiaco and San Candido, which are both lovely towns, who offer typical Tyrolean impressions. It has to offer a scenic trail along the lakeside, which takes about an hour, with eleven information boards, who explain the unique flora and fauna of the zone. The stunning color of the lake and the marvellous mountains, who are sourrounding it, make this trail a wonderful adventure. The scenic walk beginns near the parking lot and first you can wander along the lakeside for a bit. After that you'll reach grassland and then the trail leads into the quiet forest. There is also the possibility to take the junction to a cemetery of the 1. World War, which isn’t far. Almost at the latest part there is a beach with some small islands you can go on to, which is a good place to relax.Unfortunately most of the time, the lake is too cold to be able to swim in it. However it is nice to just enjoy the magnificent landscape.Another thing that makes Lago di Dobbiaco special is that you can rent a boat and paddle around the crystal clear water and enjoy the lovely swans, swimming in the lake. In the winter, when the lake is frozen you can go curling or ice skating. There is also the possibility to visit a cemetery of the 1. World War, which isn’t far and can be reached by foot.In the summer though you can make a picnic around the lake and even find some off- trail hidden spots, like the one you can see in the picture. You can also go camping on the campground right near the lake. If you’d like to experience a bit of the Southtyrolean kitchen you can go to the restaurant right at the lake and eat some “Speckknödel” (dumplings), “Apfelstrudel” (apple strudel) or “Kaiserschmarrn” and after have some Italian espresso.
