One of the highlights of the golden circle in Iceland.

The Geyser, Strokkur, has a small rest stop built around it and after parking, you will walk about five minutes north of the road. There is a high level of anticipation and thrill sitting and waiting for Strokkur to explode.

It occurs around every 5-10 minutes and if you are lucky enough to be there during the sunset you can get a nice glow from the sun behind the geyser.

The color and light are other worldly. If there are clear skies, you're in for an absolute treat. During the peak hours this place can get pretty busy (tour buses and other groups tend to stop here frequently).

I've been to Old Faithful before, but something about this geyser was different. Most likely, it was the fact that I was alllll the way over in Iceland, a foreign country to me. However, this was still something extremely powerful to see in person. About ever ~2 minutes or so, the geyser would erupt nearly 2 stories high. Sitting patiently, waiting to catch another eruption and capture it with my camera was actually very fun. The surprise of the eruption excites you every time and makes your heart race. Definitely recommend!

Take the obvious trail down the ramp and into the gap where you can explore the beautiful terrain, waterfalls and historic sites. You could easily spend an entire day hiking around and having fun.
