See the river that makes this big, bold and beautiful waterfall from the top.

Skogafoss is one of Icelands iconic waterfalls. Tourists from all over the world visit this waterfall but few will take the opportunity to hike the trails above and beyond. To the right of the falls there is a staircase which will bring you up several flights of stairs to a viewing deck. The hiking trail begins at the top of the viewing deck and provides stunning views, several waterfalls and continues on for longer than I was able to complete. I did not learn of this trail prior to my visit so I wasn't sure what I was in for. The distance of trail in its entirety is 25 kilometers.

Climb the Skogafoss stairs and hit the hiking trail on top! Reviews

I climbed those ice covered stairs last winter. Luckily I had my Yaktraks on! I didn't hike too far since there was snow on the ground, but it's on my list for my next trip.
