Horseback riding into the Icelandic countryside
Skagafjarðarvegur, Iceland
Description
Added by Wesetthesails
Wonderful 3-hour horseback riding tour off the beaten tracks in North Iceland.
This was our first time horseback riding in a long while. The tour took us through scenic landscapes with our horses, when these were not eating grass beside the trail. Includes river crossing!
- Good for those wishing to avoid the overcrowded operators that see hundreds of riders a day, for a more personalized service
- Possibility to spend time with horses afterwards, as well as learn about their role in the Icelandic society. Nearby is an old turf stable where one can see how horses were kept in the old days, and get familiar with some objects from the past.
- Great hiking paths around to extend your visit, as well as accommodation facilities in wooden cottages.
Getting there:
From Varmahlíð, a common stopover in Northern Iceland, (on the Ring Road No. 1), take road 752, and drive South into the valley until the sign Lýtingsstaðir.
