Late Night Food: The Guide to Dining in Sun Valley After 9pm

For those inclined to eat a later dinner or who just get a sense of the munchies after 9pm, visitors to the Sun Valley area may be dismayed to find that the majority of restaurants in the area close at or around 9 o’clock and often wont serve those coming in at that hour. While there’s many activities that abound in Sun Valley year-round—concerts, fundraisers, art shows—many of those events end relatively early giving restaurants little need or demand to stay open late. But a surprising number of restaurants do stay open until 10pm or later (especially in the summer) and are happy to take in a few late-night wanderers. Visit Sun Valley has compiled a list of places to go for a late-night bite (rather than searching the fridge for leftovers.

Casual Fare

The quickest and easiest bites to grab late-night are the more casual: pizzas, burgers, tacos. KB’s burritos is open until 9:30pm everyday and is conveniently located next to the Cellar Pub and Wise Guy Pizza which are also open late. KB’s serves California-inspired Mexican food including burritos, tacos, and salads. Head next door to Wise Guy’s, open until 10pm everyday, for ready-to-go pizza slices, whole pies, calzones, salads, and beer. Authentic Mexican joint La Cabanita (known locally as “La Cab”) serves until 10:30pm every day except Sundays when they are closed. With delicious Mexican fare and their large “boombas” of beer, it’s a homerun. For a bit lighter, healthier Mexican food with an American interpretation, head to Despo’s (Mexican with Altitude!) until 10pm everyday except Sundays when they are closed. For those hankering for burgers, three options in town stay open late. Ketchum’s infamous Grumpy’s with its simple menu and 32oz beer schooners it open until 10pm everyday and Lefty’s Bar & Grill serves up burgers and beers as well until midnight every day with a fun pool table, TVs for watching sports events and a great deck with sunshine and, often, live music. Local eatery Sawtooth Brewery serves up gourmet pub fare with numerous beers on tap brewed locally at their tap room. They are open until 10pm everyday and 11pm on weekends.

Those heading out for a night on the town will most likely end up at the Cellar Pub at some point. One of Ketchum’s mainstay bars, it is also a restaurant serving classed-up pub fare like fish and chips, bangers and mash, and burgers. They only serve food until 10pm but get yourself a seat now and hang out for a few hours after your food to observe some locals getting their weekend on.

For those hungry after the bars, food trucks are the only option. The lot next to Whiskey Jacques is referred to as “The Pod” and is the future home of several food trucks though for now it is home only to the Smoke Over Baldy truck, serving up food like spicy pulled chicken, brisket, and pulled pork sandwiches until 2am on weekends.

Restaurant Dining

Several more legitimate restaurants in town stay open past 9pm. The Pioneer, known for large steaks and potatoes serves food until 10pm everyday and drinks even later. Il Naso, a classic Italian eatery is open until 10pm everyday except when they’re closed on Tuesdays. Asian fusion eatery Rickshaw serves up small dishes for sharing and is open until 10:30pm Tuesday through Sunday. Enjoy outdoor dining in the summer and their ping-pong table while you wait. New restaurant The Covey with its cuisine-defying menu is open until 10pm everyday and has a great bar for enjoying drinks and a backyard for sitting by a fire pit. The Warfield, located on the corner of Main Street and Sun Valley Road, is known for their great upstairs deck with fire pit, it’s own bar and a view of town. The restaurant is open until midnight except on Mondays and Tuesdays when they are closed. Grab a cocktail with one of their hand-distilled liquors or a bite from their menu of modern American cuisine. New spot in town, the Boho, has a full menu of hand-crafted cocktails and an every-rotating menu of yummy appetizers to split or full entrees. Serving until 11pm everyday but Monday when they are closed, this late-night spot often has music events.

In the Sun Valley Village, head to the Ram bar for light bites and cocktails, beer, and wine until 10pm daily and 11pm on weekends. Village Station is open until 10pm and has a little something for everyone from specialty pizzas, entrees, salads, soups, a kid’s menu and a full bar.

Grocery

For those looking for a quick bite or just picking up something to make it open, Village Market is open until 10pm and has everything you might need in a grocery store. Veltex is also a 24-hour mini-mart which serves alcohol until 2pm (which is why you’ll often see people sprinting from the bars at 1:55am there to buy something for home before they stop serving).
