Ryan Hailstones' SUP tour is one like no other. With his approach of working with the conditions and not against them, instead of paddling in circles, he takes you on a downwind adventure. He starts off with an in-depth beach lesson, which covers proper paddling techniques and safety, as well as helping you better understand both ocean and wind conditions. When you are ready to get in the water, you are start in the ocean and paddle alongside the Ko’olau mountain range, with the breeze on your back. You travel near ancient historical sites, and learn about the natural environment that surrounds you. As you continue on, the wind takes you into a breathtaking river. Paddle past banana trees, taro patches, and many other “canoe plants”. You can also get off the board for a couple rope swings if you dare.

Ryan, winner of the 2010 battle of the paddle open division in California, and runner up to many other local races in Hawaii, will make sure you have the proper paddle stroke down before you end your tour. He offers an optional SUP Yoga crash course in the back of the river for the adventurous. End the tour with not only your newly acquired SUP skills, but with local knowledge of the Hawaiian Islands. Ryan also brings his GoPro camera to take all of your photos for you, and emails them to you later that day free of charge.

Oahu: Eastside SUP Exploration Reviews

really fun morning activity in a beautiful location! we were all beginners, but always felt comfortable. ryan was super pleasant, knowledgeable, attentive and shared his pho recipe with us! my mom even caught a few tiny waves at the end of our excursion!! would definitely recommend to people looking for a mellow half-day adventure!

As a novice at SUP, this was a great experience with a mixture of ocean and river paddling. Ryan was an excellent guide making sure that we were enjoying ourselves while experiencing the different conditions. I would certainly recommend to all level of paddlers.

Awesome morning or mid-day adventure for beginning to more experienced paddlers. Ryan's a great local resource on water activities and Oahu in general. Thanks Karen and Brian for the opportunity to share the experience.

A lotta fun. But don't disturb the locals who live by the river.
