Description

Added by Michael Gabbert

Watch the sun rise over the horizon of Tampa Bay with the Rod & Reel pier as your foreground.

With a pier stretching 100 feet into Tampa Bay, the Rod & Reel Pier is the perfect spot to be for sunrise. Located on the northern tip of Anna Maria island, the Pier itself is quite easy to get to and enjoy.

There is a parking lot next to the pier which has plenty of space of park. Another option is to walk the beach from any of the beach access points on North Shore Drive. In walking the beach towards the pier you’ll be able to watch fishermen vie for an early morning catch along with Blue Herons and Snowy Egrets fishing amongst the waves.

Aim to get to the pier 15-20 minutes before the actual sunrise. The colors and wildlife activity just prior to sunrise are as good as if not better than the moment the sun peaks over the horizon. Plus, this will give you the necessary time to set up an ideal viewing or photography location as well.

Once you’ve finished watching the sun rise and taking in the fresh morning air, you can head into the Rod & Reel restaurant for a delicious morning breakfast.
