How to Make 2017 Your Most Adventurous Year Yet

It's a new year! That means new adventures and new memories.

By: Electra Keller + Save to a List

So you've finally decided that is was going to be the year you take more risks and have more fun. All those things you've wanted to try, you want to try them this year. If you are like me, you're ready to take on this new year head first. Here are ways you can make 2017 your most adventurous year yet.

1. Hit the Trails

Go for weekly hikes. It's a great feeling knowing that every week of the year you have something fun to look forward to. This will also help with weight loss, strength training and mental health. It doesn't require much money and you'll feel great. I recommend joining a hiking group or taking on the 52 hike challenge for motivation.

2. Check out a national park or state park

There are some gorgeous landscapes in the national and state parks. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than a theme park and music festival and honestly just as fun. You can spend a day, a weekend and even a week at these parks and not get bored.

3. Go on a road trip

Pack your bags and hit the road with your best friends. You can plan a route or just drive and stop at random places. It's a great way to break from the everyday grind.

4. Go out of the country

There are many websites offering really cheap airfare and package deals for places out of the country. There honestly is no reason why you shouldn't go. Learn about a new culture. See a new place. This is your year so make it a global affair.

5. Try a new extreme sport

Do something daring! Learn to snowboard! Go skydiving! Go white water rafting! Learn how to shoot! Go on an off road excursion! Do that one crazy thing you've always wanted to try. Stop making excuses and just let go.

6. Run a marathon or challenging race

So you tried something daring now it's time to do something challenging. Train for a marathon or challenging race. If you aren't sure you're ready for a marathon or obstacle course, do a 5K. There are so many to choose from. Do your research and see what's coming to your area this year.

7. Go camping

Unplug for a night or two and sleep under the stars. Reconnect with nature and close friends or family. Hell, you can even make it a solo adventure and reconnect with yourself.
