I did this hike yesterday (April 2017) and now is the perfect time to go! The trees are starting to get new growth, so the bright green and dark green juxtaposed gives even more depth to the Santa Monica Mountains. The trail is fairly easy and partly shaded, but the ascent to the peak requires a little bouldering. There’s planning of parking although the road from the PCH is quite curvy (but beautiful). Highly recommend this trail, the views throughout are stunning!

I've lived in Austin for 6 years and St. Edwards Park still tops my list of favorite places to go year-round. There are hiking trails along the river bank (or you can just walk in the river!) and there are also some nice trails that go up higher in elevation away from the river. I frequently hammock, swim, rope swing, and hike here since it’s never too busy. April and May are particularly pretty times since the wildflowers are in full bloom. There's a small parking lot, but people often park alongside the road, too.

Took my parents here for a nice day trip. We visited in November so we didn’t brave the cold water but some people were swimming. Instead, we hiked around the area to Antelope Springs and Buffalo Springs. All the trails were flat and fairly wide, so if you’re looking for an easy outdoor walk this is your place. Bonus, it’s completely free to enter the Chickasaw National Recreation Area!
