Road Tripping through the Dolomites

From Innsbruck to Slovenia via the Dolomites

By: Cat Ekkelboom-White + Save to a List

In May, my husband Menno and I took a week off and decided to go on a little road trip. Although are final destination was Croatia, we decided to make the trip more about the journey than the destination, and planned a route through areas of outstanding natural beauty. The first of these places was the Dolomites UNESCO world heritage area in Italy.

You may have seen that we had visited this area a few weeks before for a day trip to the Lago Di Braies, but since one day wasn't enough, we decided to drive through this area on the first day of our trip which started in Innsbruck in Austria and finished in Bled in Slovenia.

Even though this time we were only driving through the Dolomites, we took almost double the time we'd scheduled to take, as around every turn was a stunning landscape waiting to be photographed.

We plan to return here again, and want to go hiking to the Tre Cime, but for now, at least we've had another little taster of this stunning area.

We want to acknowledge and thank the past, present, and future generations of all Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral lands we travel, explore, and play on. Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your adventures and follow local regulations. Please explore responsibly!
