Hike among huge rock formations, with plenty of different side trails and photo ops.
Boulder Gardens is a 2-3 hour, 4 km return hike on Mount Babcock in BC. While hiking on this trail you walk through alpine forests, huge rock formations and boulders, and amazing panoramic views. There are many cliffs on this trail and in the area, some used for rock climbing. There is a small lake nestled along the trail (called Boulder Tarn), and if you're not scared of the cold mountain water, it is possible to take a dip. The terrain is generally uphill most of the way, but there are some very steep areas as well, and areas where the rock underneath you is loose or not completely stable. If you keep an eye on where you are stepping, you will be just fine. Also, if your children or pets can do steep hikes or have gone hiking on rocky trails before, you would be able to take them on this trail. The trail is marked with orange/pink markers and tape, so keep your head up to notice them. Some of the markers can be difficult to spot at first.
There is no or very little service in this area, and you will be in bear country, so please be aware of that. Bringing bug spray and bear spray is recommended.
There is no food/stores in the area but there is a spot on the lake which has a campfire set up, if you wanted to light a fire and cook. I recommend bringing a lunch, as there are some great spots to stop, eat, and take in the views.
Visit (http://www.tumblerridge.ca/Por...) and (http://tumblerridge.ca/discove...) for more information and directions. There are more accurate directions at those webpages. Please be careful when driving as the roads are gravel and have lots of potholes and steep hills that could damage your car if you are not careful. There are some other great hikes in this area as well such as Shipwreak, Titanic, and Babcock Falls.
