Winter to early Spring hiking can be a bit tricky, Dog Mountain tops the list of snowy trails with a view this time of year!

Driving time from Vancouver, this is about 45 minutes to get to. Dog Mountain is located on the top of Mount Seymour. In the Winter months you will need good snow tires to get up to the top of this road. It has a lot of activity so be Careful! At the top you have lots of parking in a paved parking lot.

I recommend bringing hiking boots (Spring), and Snowshoes / Crampons (Winter) The trails are weather dependent so check the Mount Seymour website for a snowfall update. The summit is really nice for a few cold ones, snacks or a nice picnic, so bring something to munch on. If you're lucky you may even get to hangout with the Whiskey Jacks, but be careful though as they will eat right out of your hands. (photographer tip: this makes for a rad photo)

This trail is marked very well at the trail head, it gets a bit confusing in the snow but your chances of getting lost are minimal. Follow the sign to First Lake as there are a few trails in the area. In the winter and spring most of the man made bridges are covered, If you follow the red poles marking points on the trail it is a good little reference point. I find trail coordinates helpful when you're in a bind, or just when you plan your adventures. - Explorer shit ;) N49.367516 W-122.949211

The view is amazing in the fog or on a clear day. You'll know pretty quickly what you're in for. I luckily went on a really foggy day, and it made for a peaceful hangout once at the top. You can go at any time of the day and have a relaxing hike. This two hour hike doesn't get as crowded as some of the other local spots which is nice if you're looking to avoid that scene.

The coles notes on this trail is that it has everything; lots of fallen logs to climb, waterfalls to photograph, crazy snow formations to admire, lakes to hangout by (or swim in, during the summer) and of course an awesome view to enjoy! I highly recommend this trip suitable for any type of hiker.

Check back in for the summer report!
