Description

A short but steep hike to the top of Lone Cone Mountain to an incredible lookout spot that allow you to see all of Tofino and the Clayoquot Sound.
This trail is located on Meares Island which is about a 10 minute boat ride from Tofino. You can kayak or boat over to the island (Tofino Water Taxi charges about $40 per person for the round-trip). When you reach the dock you travel for about 5 mins along the road until you see a sign that says "Lone Cone" on the left hand side of the road. After a minute or two of hiking there will be another sign to confirm that you are on the right trail. The first kilometer is fairly flat through some swampy-type terrain. Then you start to climb for the final 2 kilometers. The trail is well-marked with flagging tape. While it takes quite a bit of energy to make it up the mountain, the view from the top is very well worth it. Also, there are some huge cedars along the trail that are pretty amazing as well.
Give yourself 4 to 6 hours for this hike as it's quite the climb and you'll want to take a break at the top to enjoy the gorgeous view.
