The Benefits of Hiking in an All Girl Group

Here's to the strong women who love to hike, fish, climb, camp, and snowshoe.

If you're anything like me you enjoy the presence of a male when you're outdoors because of the protective atmosphere they provide. While being outdoors with men, you can assume that if anything unpredictable were to happen they would have your back. As ladies, when we are outdoors we tend to defer back to the men in the group for whatever need there may be. But nothing compares to finding a group of women who love to be outdoors just as much as you do. A new atmosphere is created that cannot be replicated in a co-ed group. Not to downgrade the presence of men, but at the end of the day being solely surrounded by ladies creates a much more rewarding experience.

The atmosphere of an all girls group is much different when you get rid of the boys. We understand each other. We understand the need to stop for a second and take a picture of the snow layered on top of a rock. We understand the need to stop for five minutes to pee in a forest. We understand each other when you have to give the dog more attention than it's owner. And we understand each others desire to experience something epic and live to tell about it. Once you find these people, the best memories are made outdoors with the girls.

When you're with other women you don't have to think twice about how fast or slow you can walk up a hill because we're all going to make it to the top in the end. You don't have to worry about embarrassing yourself if you fall because in the end we'll help you up after a good laugh. There is no "alpha" in your group because leadership is shared and everyone is taken into consideration. There is an understanding as to which way you should go and then if you go the wrong way, so what, no one cares. We just turn around and head back on the right trail. There is a shared understanding.

With so much focus naturally based on trying to impress the opposite gender, when you are surrounded by girls you have no fear to be yourself. If you love the outdoors, you are loved no matter what. There is no fear to suggest different ideas or to voice whatever you may be thinking in a conversation. You don't fear the impending judgement that might come from males.

Once you hit the outdoors with women, your confidence increases. We are all trying to succeed to get to the end point, we are all in this together. You have the confidence to do something epic with other epic women right beside you. Women in the outdoors is a supportive community, all cheering each other on to do something great.

Women understand what it's like to be outside and understand the struggles you might be having. The atmosphere is different, it's positive and it's builds a community.

If you haven't grabbed a group of girls yet, I recommend this. The memories made are unforgettable. And once you're off the trail, you'll be aching to get back on it with your girls again.
