From deserted beaches to dense rainforest, this hike really has it all.

Located around 50km from the city of Mackay, Cape Hillsborough National Park offers unspoilt wilderness like no other. Dense rainforest meets secluded beaches and there's a 99% chance you'll see a kangaroo bounding along the coastline.

The Andrews Point Trail is one of the most scenic hikes I've ever done and the best thing is there's a good chance you won't see another soul along the way!

Finding the trailhead is a little tricky. Once reaching the end of Cape Hillsborough Road you will arrive at a little car park. You will see there is a resort/ caravan park there too. Find the stairway leading towards the beach, follow this down, then cut right onto a little sandy trail. You will make you way along the front of a few campsites and eventually reach a bit of an 's' bend, go around a half sunk tree and you'll see the well worn path.

The trail will start winding up the side of the ridge, taking you passed caves and through some forest. Once you reach the top you'll see a sign directing you to the first lookout. This lookout offers great views of Wedge Island and the rest of the bays.

Follow the path back from the first lookout and the track will head to the left. You will wind your way up another ridge line. The path is pretty straight-forward from here.

I won't spoil the rest of the hike too much. You will slowly wind your way back down towards the beach through some stunning forest, the trail ending on the beach around the corner from where you started. You then follow the beach back to your left and make your way back to the carpark whichever way you please.

Note: It is wise to look at the tide times when completing this trail as it is a little more difficult getting back at high tide!

Take your time here there are endless places to explore!
