Description

Added by Korey Taylor

Pedernales Falls is located 30 miles West of Austin and only a quarter mile walk from the parking lot. You can head a little further down river if you're looking to take a dip.

Pedernales Falls drops 50 feet in elevation over 3,000 feet of titled, layered steps of limestone along the Pedernales River in Blanco County. In order to reach the falls you must enter Pedernales Falls State Park and follow the park road until the very end. There you'll find a parking lot and it's only about a quarter of a mile walk to the falls. If you want to do a bit more exploring of the area, I suggest wearing hiking shoes because it's rocky, slippery, and some places are covered with shrubs. If you're looking to just relax, there is a small beach area where you can set out your towel, bring a cooler, and soak up some rays.

Dog friendly. A little dried up for this time of year, but such a beautiful hike.

Pedernales Falls State Park is a must visit when in central Texas. The park has many miles of trails, lush foliage, and wildlife spotting opportunities. The main attraction of the park, Pedernales Falls, is a scenic area along the Pedernales River. And from which it gets its name, there are a multitude of beautiful waterfalls. Because of COVID, it is difficult to get reservations. You must book several days in advance but it's very much worth it!

Visited the park a day after it rained and was rewarded with heavy falls and a beautifully lush forest. It’s a pretty small park so I hiked a lot of the day but it feels like you stay in a contained area. The falls are beautiful and easy to get to. Incredible Geological beauty is displayed among the many pools that cascade over each other!
