Explore one of the best preserved cliff dwellings in North America rich in cultural and natural history.

Montezuma Castle is actually one of the United State's first National Monuments. This five story 50 room cliff dwelling is one of the best preserved in all of North America. There is a short interpretive walk along the cliff in which one can see the many remnants of the previous inhabitants.

The Sinagua People inhabited this region over 600 years ago and it is thought that they lived along Beaver Creek in these dwellings for over 400 years.

This is not where montezuma lived. 😂 This is a beautiful park though and I enjoyed not only the ruins, but the path along the river.

The ruins are really well preserved! It can get busy so try to go on a weekday or early. There is a lot of material around for you to educate yourself on the people that lived her. Head over to Montezuma Well to see the water source for this entire community!

The dwelling is so well preserved you can just imagine what it was like to live there. Shaded pathways were especially appreciated.
