Camp in Four Peaks Wilderness Area, Arizona
Fort McDowell, Arizona
Description
Added by Rose Julian
The Four Peaks Wilderness Area is a great place to pitch a tent or car camp. It is home to breathtaking desert views and beautiful sunrises/sunsets, great for photography! An awesome place to chill by a campfire.
Four Peaks Road is a well maintained dirt road off of Arizona highway 87 (If heading up north from phoenix, you will turn right off of the highway onto Four Peaks Road, it is well marked and has a turn lane). Off of the main Four Peaks Road, there are tonnes of trails left and right- it's an epic trail system. On most of the trails there are turnouts that are great for camping. If you take the first marked trail to your right, continue on the trail and keep right when it forks, you eventually come to the highest point of the trail with a turnout and will have a beautiful 360 degree view. Saguaro Lake will be southeast, and you will see the Superstition Mountains and Weaver's Needle south of you. You will also have a clear view of the beautiful Four Peaks mountain. This spot is awesome for camping and chilling by the fire. Four Peaks is an awesome spot for photography- look out for interesting cacti, wildflowers in the spring, desert wildlife, etc. It is breathtaking in the spring when the wildflowers come out! Be spontaneous and have fun!
