I just completed the trail for the second time this weekend. It’s 3.5 miles to the falls and then 3.5 miles back for a total of 7 miles. Your initial dissent is down word into a flat area for most of the journey. The last leg before the waterfall you will deal with incline and rocks. Unfortunately due to quite a bit of traffic some of the safety features that have been installed are in decrepit shape hanging off the rock faces providing no adequate safety holds. Given that I’m not one to need those handrails it wasn’t that big of a concern for me. Once you make your final dissent the waterfall will be to your left and a gorgeous swimming pool of water if you go in late spring summer or early fall I recommend bringing a swimsuit you will definitely want to dive in and cool off. Our most recent hike in the fall all along the trail work campers setting up for their overnight stays as long as people pack it in and pack it out I have no concern with that but it seem to be quite a bit of trash along the trail. This is one of my favorite hikes and Georgia I’m sad to see it come to the state that it’s in at this time but would definitely recommend it as long as you are an experienced hiker that does not require safety rails
